It lies within the London Borough of Tower Hamlets, separated from the eastern edge of the square mile of the City of London by the open space known as Tower Hill.
The Tower of London is one of the country’s most popular tourist attractions. Under the ceremonial charge of the Constable of the Tower, it is cared for by the charity Historic Royal Palaces and is protected as a World Heritage Site.
You can’t go to London and not visit the Tower. Anyone who knows anything about British history will find the Tower of London Interesting. The Crown Jewels are worth the visit alone but there’s definitely more than that. The tower itself is well worth a visit with a fantastic array of buildings and antiquities.
A fair bit of walking but you expect it, also fair few stairs. No rush to go around the exhibits. Very interesting to see history in front of your eyes and to see where many people had been killed through the years. Gift shop are good. Some parts you have to pay for separately.
If you only want to see crown jewels and don’t have much interest in history, go later in the day–while you might miss the guided tours, you’ll see the jewels without waiting hours on line.
Excellent heritage site. The history of everything that happened and how they used the Tower through time is very interesting.
